Spinnett asked county commissioners at their Thursday meeting to spare petitioners from gathering signatures and to instead use their power to direct the proposed initiative to the ballot in its current wording.

Ryan Menten of Hillsboro and Dave Walker of Damascus took their experience at local high schools - including Aloha, Beaverton and Central Catholic - and have grown it into Tigard-based HoopSource Basketball. The business runs youth and high school leagues that are drawing more than 200 teams for kids in eighth grade through high school.
